WHAT DROVE YOU TO JOIN CROSSFIT JOZI EAST?
I was trying different activities to keep myself busy after deciding to stop playing football and nothing seemed to stick. After a few years (and many kilos gained) I decided to dive into some sort of fitness program. After a bit of convincing, the Heuers and Taskers convinced me to try CFJE and I haven’t looked back since!
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A MEMBER FOR?
It’s probably close to just under a year now.
WHO INSPIRES YOU?
It seems to have been the trend for everyone to say the crew that they train with…. And I’m not going to change that!
5AM CREW FOR LIFE!
All those guys and girls that get up blindly at that time not knowing what they are getting themselves into, but do it anyways. From the seasoned guys, to the guys coming from groundwork, all are an inspiration that make me want to see those kind of improvements in myself. (Totes emosh… haha)
WHAT ARE YOU DOING WHEN YOU AREN’T AT THE GYM?
I enjoy playing golf and can often be found hacking my way around the course. I am also easily convinced to have a beer or two with good company J
TELL US ONE INTERESTING THING THAT PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU?
A) That my real name is Andrew, haha
B) I used to play provincial football as a goalkeeper for numerous years, but gave it up due to injuries and travelling related to my career.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE CHILDHOOD T.V PROGRAMME?
I was, and still am a huge fan of all the old British comedies, shows like Faulty Towers, Only Fools and Horses, Black Adder, just to name a few. I love that dry sense of humor that all those shows have.
IF YOU HAD TO HAVE A SUPER POWER WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
Mind control, to be able to convince anyone to do what I say…
“Coach Carl or Coach Andre, you DON’T want to give us 150 wall balls” J
WHAT WOULD YOUR PERFECT WORKOUT BE?
I enjoy most of the ‘heavy’ weightlifting movements, like deadlifts and front/back squats. And I surprisingly don’t hate rowing, so combining them would be ideal for me!
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE CLASS OR SESSION AT CFJ EAST?
Competing in both The Open and The Throwdown within my first year of joining CF was super challenging, but super fun at the same time. I think it’s something that everyone involved in our community should try at least once.
WHAT MIGHT WE FIND IN YOUR FRIDGE AT HOME?
There’s always fruit juice and for some reason there’s always gherkins/pickles, they never seem to get eaten…
WHAT IS THE COOLEST THING THAT YOU HAVE ACHIEVED AT CFJ EAST?
Definitely the last one rep max deadlifting class, I managed to get 200kg done so am pretty proud of that one. (Also the Taskers and Heuers don’t let me live it down when I try do lighter weights in a session)
WHAT CHANGES IN YOUR HEALTH HAVE YOU NOTICED SINCE STARTING?
I’ve dropped over 10kg since starting, so that’s a big difference already. Also just generally feel much healthier. Not as lethargic and lazy as I used to feel.
LIST SOME OF YOUR BIG GOALS.
To improve on all the overhead movements, I feel I fall behind with those. As well as the gymnastics side of things. Being a ‘big lad’ things like muscle ups seem so unrealistic to obtain. But I’ll keep on keeping on and hopefully get there one day…
