Thanks to all the public holidays and everyone being away so much, it was especially difficult to nominate an athlete of the month for April. But Saul has stayed consistent, is a pleasure to coach and is always supportive of those around him. But the thing we love most about him is how he flies under the radar 😉

Name: Saul Mayers

I’ve been training at CrossFit Jozi since: August 2012

I discovered CrossFit through first watching the Crossfit Games on ESPN then coincidentally stumbled upon it a short while after on Twitter.

The most significant change in my health since starting Crossfit has been a noticeable drop in my body fat, an increase and improvement in my all round fitness. My strength, speed and agility have improved, which is most noticeable when playing other sports. But more importantly, waking up each day knowing that I am the fittest I have ever been.

My biggest challenge in CrossFit is that one-rep-max back squat.

The pursuit of improvement, the love I have for training, and most importantly, the camaraderie that has been established over the past 20 or so months, is what keeps me coming back.

If I could use one word to describe myself it would be: Dedicated

My favourite activity outside of CrossFit is either playing football or watching as much of it as I can. I also enjoy trying to play a bit of golf, emphasis on the trying, taking it easy with family and friends, enjoy my music as well.

My favourite place to eat in Jozi is either Schwarma Co in Norwood or JB’s at Melrose Arch.

My proudest accomplishment as Crossfit Jozi has to be this nomination for Athlete of the Month. Thankfully I had the elusive pull-up before starting at CrossFit Jozi!

My goals for the remainder of this year are constantly striving to get stronger and fitter whilst maintaining a strict eating regimen, as well as improving my running. Ideally an all-round improvement.
