A FRIENDLY REMINDER: THERE IS NO RIGHT WAY TO FEEL RIGHT NOW

Community

The world is a very strange place right now.

We are experiencing extraordinary and unusual times and for many of us, lockdown has brought with it a range of emotions from anxiety, sadness, frustration, inertia and various forms of the “lockdown blues”.

The challenges we are facing are unprecedented and the outcome of this pandemic will have varying impacts on our future, many of which are unknown.  It is difficult to not be affected by what we see and read in the media, especially the plight of our fellow citizens who aren’t as fortunate to be able to endure lockdown in relative comfort, and businesses and jobs that are threatened by the economic impact that lockdown brings.

Social media, fake news, real news, the concerns for our friends, family and children weigh heavily. How we process and express these concerns is unique to each of us and there is no right or wrong way to deal with our current circumstances and the resulting emotions.

What is important to remember is that we are all in this together.  Not only in South Africa, but globally.  We are united in our collective experience through this pandemic.  Across the world people are experiencing the same anxieties, concerns, hopes and fears.

So it really doesn’t matter if you’re using this time to eat well and exercise, or if you are not.  It doesn’t matter if you’re working, reading, learning, crafting, baking, snacking or have stayed in your pyjamas since lockdown began.  What matters is that you are not alone.  You have the support of your coaches and gym buddies.

So reach out if you need a helping hand, words of support and advice or just want to shoot the breeze with a friend.  If you miss your workout partner, drop them a message and tell them.  The gym and CFJ community is a source of strength and encouragement, so let’s stay connected and find ways to support each other over the weeks ahead.
