We’re a little late with our Athlete of the Month because it’s been such a busy few months but we would like to congratulate our Athlete of the month for July, Taryn-Ann Barker. Taryn has had a slightly more challenging journey into CrossFit (read her testimonial here), but she has shown incredible dedication and commitment to work on her weaknesses and she’s seeing the benefits of that with her ability to train pain free, increasing her quality of life outside of the gym – This is what CrossFit is all about and Taryn is a shining example!
I’ve been training at CrossFit Jozi East since: Just as CFJ East opened its doors in March 2014
I discovered CrossFit through: Travis my boyfriend, he saw signage being put up and forced me to join, hahaha!
The most significant change in my health since starting CrossFit has been: I see a difference every day, even picking up the washing basket or opening a jar. I am getting stronger. My neck and back feel great, I am able to do things I couldn’t before I started CrossFit.
My biggest challenge at CrossFit is: Running and Front Squats
The atmosphere of the box, keeps me coming back.
If I could use one word to describe myself it would be: Tenacious
My favorite activity outside of CrossFit is: Playing soccer
My favorite place to eat in Jozi is: So many, but my favourite restaurant is Mythos at East Gate Shopping centre.
My proudest accomplishment at CrossFit Jozi East is: Getting half way up the rope haha!
My goals for the remainder of the year are: I really want to reach my goal of 2 minutes plank hold and a hand stand push up. I got to get that right!!
Weight lost since joining: I’m sure im putting muscle on, more than losing weight. About 2kg.
