March 2014 Athlete of the month

The CrossFit Games Open 2014 is over and for many athletes training at CrossFit Jozi it’s been the most intense 5 weeks of your entire lives! Many of you managed your first double under EVER on 14.1, got your first chest to bar pull-up on 14.2 or managed to finish 14.5 with every rep of your thrusters being a PB! Big Ups!

For all the athletes at CrossFit Jozi East however, they’ve spent the past 5 weeks getting to grips with the basics, squant stance, jumping stance, hook grip, butt back, knees out…. We often lose sight of just how far we’ve come as athletes, how much we’ve soaked up and how much we’ve sweated. We keep pushing to be faster and stronger and fitter – looking to the future, working and wishing for that next PB, so much so that we lose sight of how it all started. You keep looking to the future for your next PB, perhaps it’s not in looking to the future, to more weight and to moving faster, but in simply mastering the basics.

“Stick to the basics and when you feel you’ve mastered them it’s time to start all over again, begin anew – again with the basics – this time paying closer attention.” Greg Glassman

Chantel discovered CrossFit through her brother and her determination and dedication to learn the basics is why we’ve chosen her as CrossFit Jozi East’s first Athlete of the Month.
