Your name? Christine Kingham
What drove you to join CrossFit Jozi East?
I was struggling to get back into shape after my daughter was born, and I mentioned it to Coach Andre at a social function. He told me to give CrossFit a try and guaranteed that I would see results within the first month – he was right!
How long have you been a member for?
Just over 1 year – I did the free Saturday session on the day after my birthday last year and I have not looked back.
Who inspires you?
The Newbies – because it takes real guts to stick with a program where you don’t really know most of the movements or even their names, and where most people are running faster, jumping higher or lifting heavier than you are in the class.
The “Pros” – because I look at how hard they work to get their advanced movements perfected, increase their max reps and weight, and do all of those damn elusive pull-ups.
The Girls – every single lady at CFJ inspires me through their positive, uplifting attitudes, their dedication to their training, and their ability to cheer on and support the women around them. I’ve made so many incredible friends since joining CrossFit and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. I have to give a special mention to the 5am East Ladies – you girls ROCK!
What are you doing when you aren’t at the gym?
Spending as much time as possible with my husband Craig and two year old daughter, Rachel. I also enjoy doing adventure races and socializing with friends.
Tell us one interesting thing that people might not know about you?
I was a Pole Dance Fitness instructor for two years before I had my daughter, I’ve received provincial colours in Kick Boxing, and I love to Crochet. (Ooops that’s three things)
What was your favorite childhood T.V Programme?
Gummy Bears! The theme song is really catchy and I still find myself singing it in my head sometimes. Gummmmmmyyyyyy Beaaaaaarrs! Bouncing here and there and EEEEEVERYWHERE!!
If you had to have a super power what would it be and why?
To eat as much Chocolate as I like and not gain weight… does that count?
What would your perfect workout be?
Anything that involves Back Squats and Skipping – I also love partner WODs!
What has been your most memorable class or session at CFJ East?
My first class after completing the GroundWork program. I was so nervous on my first day of joining the main class – but everyone welcomed me with big smiles, the workout was incredibly fun, and the atmosphere was amazing with all of the crew cheering each other on. I really felt like a part of the crew and I couldn’t wait to come back again.
What might we find in your fridge at home?
Mostly Paleo foods, with the odd block of cheese, bottle of wine or chocolate bar stashed in the back.
What Is The Coolest Thing That You Have Achieved At CFJ East?
I competed in the 2016 CrossFit Open and performed a lot better than I thought I would.
What Changes In Your Health Have You Noticed Since Starting?
I’m definitely much healthier, faster, stronger and leaner than I was 12 months ago. My mental and emotional health has also improved drastically, and I think that as members for CrossFit Jozi and Jozi East we don’t always realize how much of a positive impact the goal orientated training, daily positive interactions with Crew and Coaches, as well as sense of Community has on us as individuals.
